The journey began as a child, taking part in my mum's experimental textile workshops and hours spent with my grandmother, re-using and re-purposing inventions and creations. Then later on, with a textile degree under my belt I spent a volunteer year running art workshops in South America. Upon setting my feet on British soil again and placing routes in my own home, I set about decorating, but I was frustrated that I couldn’t find any fabric that was affordable, unique and fitted my boho beach style.
And Toria was born.
Sourcing inspiration from experimental paintings, junk shop finds and travel photos, I set about creating patterns and designs to bring colour and life into my home, and eventually beyond. TORIA has developed into making handmade products incorporating all of my passions – textiles, collage, making, sewing and working freely to bring texture into digital designs.
Every item produced requires time, care and is an intensive labour of love! I bring bright and fresh art onto linen or cotton, each width printed is constructed into a limited number of high quality bags and homeware accessories. I work intuitively and let my instinct for composition and shape form the design. The aim is to keep designs fresh and forever evolving, to create something vibrant, unique, and practical for people’s homes.
I am always happy to work with other designers and makers on collaborations and projects, so please get in touch with any queries. Just follow any of the social media links or drop me an email at hello@toriabyvictoriajowett.co.uk
